End of Year Successes and Celebrations

At our end-of-semester Wrap Up we celebrated the successful Semester 2 eMentor Program and Summer Rural Program, and recognised the achievements of some of our outstanding volunteers.

“Volunteering with TLG was the most rewarding, eye-opening and beneficial experience for me, especially as an education student considering working in remote Australia. Through this experience my eyes were opened to a world that was so different from my own, teaching me the importance of patience, awareness, and kindness.” - Rural Program Volunteer

This Rural Program, 161 TLG volunteers visited 20 schools across rural and remote WA. We received positive feedback from both volunteers and schools: 100% of volunteers said the TLG program was a positive experience, 100% of school staff believe TLG helps students reach their full potential, and 100% of school staff would recommend TLG to other schools and teachers.

“An unforgettable experience where amazing people gathered to help the students grow and were inspired to grow themselves along the way.” - Rural Program Volunteer

Each semester we recognise the outstanding efforts of some of our program volunteers. The Turbo Awards are presented to an exceptional Mentor and Tutor who are passionate about creating positive change, helped form impactful bonds, and showed integrity and enthusiasm in their role. This semester’s Turbo Awards were presented to Katherine Mulligan (eMentor) and Unnatiben Patel (Rural Program).

The Emerging Leadership Awards are presented to incredible coordinators who deal with challenges in impressive ways and lead their volunteer teams to make a meaningful impact in the communities we work with. This semester’s Emerging Leadership Awards were presented to Ian Oon (eMentor) and Emma Pearce (Rural Program).

The TLG Tree Club is comprised of volunteers who have continuously contributed to TLG’s mission of bridging the gap in education through their efforts over five TLG programs. This semester two new members were welcomed to the Tree Club: Catrina Hodgson and Alexandra O’Brien.

“TLG has been an eye-opening experience as an international student in Australia and I am so grateful that I got this opportunity. I cannot express how much I recommend doing the Rural Program to everyone.” - Rural Program Volunteer

The TLG executive is a group of talented, young volunteers who make our programs possible. Executive Volunteer Awards are presented to executive volunteers who have done truly incredible work over the last semester, and their time on the executive over the years.

The Golden Leaf Award is presented to the team who has worked efficiently and helped lead a positive culture; this semester’s Golden Leaf Award was presented to the Logistics Team: Yasmin Vijayasekaran, Abhilash Dhruva, Menaaz Khan, Emma Pearce, Adam Tooby.

The Maple Leaf Award goes to a hard worker who flies under the radar; this semester Maple Leaf Awards were presented to William Lawler and Chris Law.

The Volunteer of the Semester Award is for the Executive volunteer who best embodies TLG’s values; and this semester was awarded to Evie Daniels Peake.

Outstanding Service Awards and Honorary Life Memberships are awarded to executive volunteers who are concluding their role this semester. These awardees have been a member of the Executive team for an extended period, consistently display TLG’s core values, and have made significant contributions above and beyond expectations towards the sustainable development of the organisation. This semester the Outstanding Service Award was awarded to Zoe Tavendale and Honorary Life Membership was awarded to George Kavalam (pictured with TLG’s CEO Bridget Staude).
