Teach Learn Grow Inc announces Cornerstone Partnership with Gold Fields Australia

GOLD FIELDS Australia have been a major sponsor of TLG since 2016, supporting hundreds of students in the Goldfields region of WA to participate in one-on-one tutoring and mentoring programs. The expanded partnership will support TLG to improve the educational outcomes and aspirations of even more students across the region over the next few years, in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Leonora, Laverton and other remote Goldfields communities.

Every year, in June and December, TLG runs a week-long Rural Program whereby groups of tertiary student volunteers travel to regional and remote communities across WA and NSW. The program facilitates free one-on-one tutoring and mentoring to primary school students experiencing educational disadvantage as a result of their location, background and circumstances.

TLG CEO Bridget Staude explains why funding from partners like Gold Fields is so important.

“Some of the schools in the Goldfields region are amongst the lowest socio economic areas in WA which means they have children we identify as high-risk to fall well below the minimum education standards,” explains Ms Staude.

“We are pleased to welcome Gold Fields Australia as a Cornerstone Partner, providing TLG with sustainable long-term support to continue to grow its positive impact in the region. Our volunteer team is looking forward to the next Rural Program in June, where they will travel to schools across the Goldfields to provide high-dose maths tutoring to ignite students' interest in learning and to be positive role models for students,” she said.

The not-for-profit group is able to deliver its programs at no cost to schools, thanks to the support of hundreds of hardworking volunteers and the generosity of regional partners that operate in rural and remote communities in WA.

On average, children in very remote areas are 20 times more likely to be below the minimum standard of maths, and three in five indigenous students will not graduate highschool by age 19. TLG partners with organisations who share a mutual objective to improve the educational outcomes of children experiencing disadvantage and address the gap between remote and metropolitan educational achievement.

TLG entered its twelfth year of operation in 2023, and is set to continue its positive impact on remote communities, as a result of the ongoing partnerships, and new major regional partnerships.

This year, the organisation expects to provide curriculum-aligned tutoring and mentoring to more than 1500 rural and remote children, with the support of more than 500 dedicated volunteers.
